Term 3 Week 8
Maths Mentals
Please complete Unit 22 of your Maths Mentals.
Times Tables
Choose one or two times table to practice each week night, use a timer set at 1 minute. By the end of the year you are expected to know and quickly recall all your times tables.
Mathletics
Each week students need to complete three tasks at home. If this is not possible students will have some time in class to complete this work. Students who are completing levels higher than Year 4 will not be set tasks and may choose which ones they would like to try.
Reading
It is really important to read at home each day. You should be reading more than 30 minutes per day.
Spelling Tasks
Students on Level 4 are required to do 4 of the tasks each week to help improve their spelling. Students on other levels can choose to do these tasks if they wish.
Fold or rule your homework book page into 2 or 4 columns and write Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the top of each column. Write out all the words you don’t know how to spell each night and learn them as best you can. On Monday night do a pretest so that you don’t need to practice words you already know.
Remember
Look at the word
Cover it with your hand or some paper
Say the word out loud
Write it down
Check the spelling after you have written it down.
Independent List
For those students who have shown they are great spellers and require a more independent method that will help them develop their skills further.
Choose words you do not know or have difficulty spelling.
- 6 words from the Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 lists above
- 6 words from the demon word lists or hard to spell words

Hi Mrrees
For revision do we have a test tomorrow?
As discussed in class, yes.
Hi Mr Rees,
I am trying really hard in spelling tests to get my words right. I want to move up.
You are doing great Janani and I can see that you are trying very hard.
Is there supposed to be a gap in the year 5 list?
yes
Thankyou!
Why is there a gap?
Just to make it easier when we do the test on Friday. You don’t need to worry about it.
Do you set up mathletics tasks Mr Rees?
Only when I have time. If I don’t you can just choose 3 to do each week.
Dear Mr Rees,
We are working on the The First Settlers’ home assignment and we would like to know if we need to include furniture in the house made of recycled material.
Also could you explain the documentary part of the assignment to a confused parents please.
Kind regards,
Anna and Glen
Hi Glen,
No you don’t have to have furniture in the house, though little details do look good. The documentary part is just a procedural text, step by step how it was made (like a recipe).
Hope that helps
Regards
Nic
so does that mean that we dont have homework this week?
Correct!
do we have homework this week mr rees??
If you look at the top it tells you the term and the week. Right now it says Term 3 Week 1, so yes you have homework.

The choice of topic for the Information Report is up to you.

I will find out.
thanks mrrees.

Hi Nathan
I thought you said you’d delete the comments saying ‘Hi Mr Rees!’

Hi Mr Rees
Last week I was moved down from individual and the year six words this week are words I already know. How do I challenge myself?
Changing levels was determined on the amount of words you got incorrect on the revision test and previous tests.
I don’t have my notes at home, though I am sure there is no problem with you staying on the individual list (it is where you should be). You just need to add a few more Year 6 words to your weekly individual list.
This week you can do the Year 6 list and then change back next week. Sound good?
sounds awesome! Thanks!
